Hi my friend in Greece,
you are getting this letter from another great nation in history: Iran.
These days and nights we are facing a war in Iran.
Some Iranian officials who get their orders from Russia are forced to continue this stupid war against any national benefits just because Russia wants to get retaliation from Trump and make costs for the US as Russia is trapped in Ukraine. So this is stupid war and unfortunately we don’t know who is making decisions inside of Iran. There is a big disparity between Iranian officials. but both of them are now united in one thing: “keeping this war’. one side is treated if they accept surrendering they are betrayal to their country and their life is in danger among these fanatics.
This is like the “Michael Colins” film as Neil Jordan depicts this kind of disparity between two sides inside Ireland against a foreign enemy (Britain) in his film in 1996.
Only in this context you could find the reason for their stupid decisions in this situation! It is so strange for other people to understand why against lots of benefits that the Iranian regime could get from MOU with Trump they fired missiles toward ships last week! It is so strange. Are they crazy or something?
They couldn’t say no because some fanatics would start fighting against them inside of Iran. so between two options they are trapped:
- accepting this ceasefire could result in a coup inside Iranian officials or even worse killing each other inside of the regime.
- Or continuing this war by closing the strait of Hormoz that is a gift for their master “Putin”.
They haven’t any other choice. they are losing all sides and they are just saying: “All Quiet on the Southern Front”!
Last week I was watching “Captain Corelli’s Mandolin”. I found out why you and your partner from Italy were allied in Earthquake programs between two ancient countries Italy and Greece.
This was against any war when in 1990s ,in post modernism era, you find your two countries in one similar natural problem: “Earthquake”. Maybe now we can find another natural hazard in our situation.
Hitchcock in his film “the Birds” said birds are symbols of natural hazards that are forgiven by humans. Daphne du Maurier (writer of this screenplay) inspired birds as Nazi airplanes during WWII, just like now that we are confronted with a huge airforce bombing every night in the south of Iran.
These days we are facing an earthquake in Venezuela. I am thinking about why countries who are facing difficulties like war, also must be facing this kind of natural disaster?
I find that in the middle of calamities there is always an earthquake that could change the place between friend and enemy. like in the 1953 earthquake in Greece that made Italy and Greece an ally to each other for retrofitting against it.
In the seventeenth century after Lisbon’s earthquake some philosophers like Voltaire and Jean-Jacques Rousseau published articles about the damage of this earthquake. Rousseau said that getting distance from natural living state and live in a very small concentrated place made it worse in front of seismic and suggested to take back to our natural state. I know it is impossible to return to a natural state. Instead we can retrofit and rehabilitate this dilapidated house.
First, we must break this imaginary mental prison that shackled our legs from moving. Another name for prison In fact we are all entrapped in our ideological mental prison. From both sides and their materialist or religious ideologies and from outside who are trying to entrap other countries under their policies for dominating them and keep exploiting them under their capitalist policies. They are all in their own ideological prison.
Our country is on the cradle of revolution and like earthquakes it is something that our ancestors are familiar with. So we must accept this as a natural hazard and instead of trying to prevent it we can start retrofitting our houses in front of its collateral damages.
so maybe we should try to find a new ally between our two ancient nations Iran and Greece for retrofitting against this kind of earthquakes:
like “Captain Corelli’s Mandolin” : “I wanted her to understand how a land so peaceful could be shattered by earthquakes and war…This is a very ancient land…we have had nothing but earthquakes…“
“Captain Corelli’s Mandolin” 1994 novel by Louis de Bernières.
Kind Regards.
